Book: “Beartown / The Scandal” by Fredrik Backman
“Beartown is a small town in a large forest. For most of the year it is under a thick blanket of snow, experiencing the kind of cold and dark that brings people closer together – or pulls them apart.”Written by Swedish blogger, columnist and author of the bestselling A Man Called Ove, this book has two English titles: Beartown or The Scandal and has been adapted into a five episode mini-series. ‘It explores the role a junior ice-hockey team has in a small community, the hope, the secrets that could tear the town apart, the courage it takes to go against the group and the consequences of how we raise our children.’
Gin: Stockholm’s Bränneri Dry Gin
For our gin pairing we move from the forest to Sweden’s capital city with the Stockholms Branneri Dry Gin – a Nordic take on the classic. Distilled in an old Jaguar workshop, it has 7 key botanicals of juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, lemon peel, heather, elderflower and rosemary.I loved it served with Fevertree Elderflower Tonic, a sprig of Rosemary and a slice or two of blood orange.
Happy reading! (And sipping)
