So that little squishy newborn who arrived, wasn’t it just the other day, is gearing up for having been earth-side one entire year and you are gearing up to celebrate! Here are three party theme ideas (tried and tested!) that work indoor/outdoor and for a variety of budgets.
Tips On Choosing A Theme
- Pick something that suits the birthday babe’s personality and/or name
- Pick something you already have decor options for, whether its toys you already own or a colour palette that you have a lot of
- One Year Olds don’t need proper entertainment but have a zone set up on a playmat with some toys for them to discover. If there are some older kids coming, consider a few things for them to do too – maybe they can blow bubbles for everyone to enjoy?
- Pinterest is your inspiration friend.
- Get the whole family in with on theme outfit choices (doesn’t need to be full COS-PLAY but complimentary)
- Ask someone to take photos (preferably someone with a nice camera)
- Canva is a great way to make custom invitations
- Have a Plan B for weather if outside, or use an option that will work regardless
- Know your strengths and limits. Throwing a first birthday party should be fun!
BEARLY BELIEVE YOU’RE ONE

- Lends itself to a Teddy Bears’ Picnic
- Delightful for a park picnic, but would also work in the back garden or even an inside picnic set-up for bad weather
- Earthy tones are very popular at the moment and easy to come by
- Teddy Bears make for cute decor that can also be played with
- Can also expand into a more Forest theme, or a quirky Wes Anderson-esque interpretation

FIRST TRIP AROUND THE SUN

- Use a sunset colour palette (yellows, oranges, pinks)
- I collected colourful egg cartons (in the right palette) to use for food display
- Go for anything that makes you feel Sunshine & Happiness

WILD ONE

- Welcome to the jungle.
- Safari, Amazon, Asia Jungle – can zone in and be specific or keep it broad
- It’s a popular theme making it easy to find decor for – and you probably have toys at home already that can easily be incorporated!
